Description
SENNEH HAFT RANG (seven colors)
Second half of the 19th century, from Western Persia (Kurdistan) Senneh is the ancient name of Sanandaji, capital of Persian Kurdistan, wool fleece on silk armor.
The Senneh are among the finest and most refined carpets of urban manufacture woven by the Kurds and, among these, the so-called 'haft rang' (seven colors) because, like the example illustrated here, they have silk warps. of seven different colors. The designs used are not many and among these the so-called "herati" motif prevails composed of small quadripartite lozenges and surrounded by arched sickle leaves, widespread in many Persian and Caucasian textures, but which in these carpets is usually performed with particular finesse. Another very common design is the "boteh, also known by us as Cachemire or Paisley motif. The colors are almost always centered on shades of red and blue with touches of light blue, aquamarine green and, more rarely, pink. our example is both classic and particular. The design, in fact, is made up of the "herati" motif for the field and the small blue hexagonal medallion in the center, which rests on a larger hexagon with an ivory background decorated with a very refined boteh. The border with a bright red background is again a classic and the palmette motif it presents is still called "herati", or more precisely "herati di bord". The fineness of the knotting on the silk warp, the brilliance of the colors and the extreme precision of the design in two different decorations make this specimen not only a rare and unusual piece, but also a carpet of absolute excellence.
